Many facilities have high occupancy areas such as cafeterias, gymnasiums, and auditoriums. These pose unique security and life safety challenges. Occupants must always be allowed to freely egress and still need a way to lockdown the area in an emergency.
The best practice for lockdown is to be able to secure the door from the interior side of the room. This is important because it allows the user to stay in a safer location while securing the door. To meet this need, Falcon has developed the double cylinder option (-2) for the panic and fire-rated 25-R-L wide stile devices.
The double cylinder option (-2) allows for intuitive unlocking and locking of the outside trim from the interior side of the door. The inside locking function can be activated using a keyed cylinder or thumb turn which includes a sticker indicating clear direction of rotation to intuitively secure opening.
Retrofit conversion kits are also available to enable you to upgrade the functionality of an existing device. This provides you with flexibility to upgrade your device as your needs change.
Devices with the double cylinder (-2) option meet all fire and life safety codes and enable egress at all times, so occupants from inside the room may freely exit. This also provides peace of mind by giving the user the ability to lockdown in an emergency.
