CARMEL, IND. (August 10, 2017) – Door and Hardware Institute (DHI), an association serving door security and safety professionals, recently honored Allegion Specification Manager Bill Lawliss, DAHC/CDC, CSI, CCPR, as a Distinguished Architectural Hardware Consultant (DAHC).
The award is based on technical expertise and is reserved for consultants with more than 10 years as a contributing member to the DHI organization. It also acknowledges those who have demonstrated a high degree of technical excellence and standards of performance as an active DHI consultant, as well as contributed to the improvement and advancements of the door hardware industry.
"It’s very humbling; I didn’t expect it and I’m honored with the award,” Lawliss said. “I want to make sure I live up to the distinguished certification and reflect that title in how I carry myself in the industry.”
Lawliss has more than 30 years of experience in the door hardware industry as a hardware specification consultant. He is currently the Allegion specification manager for the New England, Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic regions. He has been a contributing DHI member for 20 years.
Lawliss was in the industry for nearly 12 years before becoming certified, a decision that helped shape his career. “Education and training have always been ongoing for me and the process has taught me you have to have the tools to know where to look, who to turn to and network with, and what to learn from the industry.”
Continued education and learning will be critical to specification writing in the future. Technology continues to impact the design and construction industries, as well as how these professionals specify products by improving productivity, reducing errors and streamlining the work flow process. Staying abreast of advancements in these areas will be important to the continued success of specification consultants.
